Nerf was inspired by an indoor volleyball that creator Rey Guyer once brought to his workplace. Seeing how much fun his colleagues had with the foam ball, Guyer went on to develop a new toy concept, the "world's first official indoor ball", which was introduced in 1970. This innovation was marketed as a safe toy that won’t damage lamps, break windows and hurt babies or the elderly, coincidentally addressing a previously unrecognized consumer need.
By the end of the year, the toy had sold more than four million units and had spawned new versions including a much larger ball that had a diameter of four inches. In 1992, the first foam projectile called Sharpshooter was introduced, marking the beginning of the Blaster era.
Lock and load!
Blasters are the best toys to keep handy when you’re spending time outdoors with family and friends. Reenact a battle while you’re armed with the Nerf Rapidfire on one hand and the Stryfe on the other. Don’t forget to stock up on enough dart refills to take down an army and make sure you’re dressed for the part with accessories including a tactical vest.
Take the game down to the pool with the Super Soaker series or use the Zombie Strike range for any “zombie encounters”. Kids ages 5 to 8 years can get started with the Nitro product. At the end of the game, keep your priced blasters in the Elite Transport and Storage Bag or the Footlocker System to keep them protected and away from the hands of your opponents.
Nerf games are amazing at engaging kids (over the age of 8) and adults in a fun activity. Players get to form teams and strategize, thereby honing leadership skills while encouraging teamwork, cooperation and communication. This type of role-play game also sparks creativity and imagination while all the running, ducking and diving one has to do to avoid the darts enhance stamina.
